Make Your Own Paper Roll Vaysie
Turn an empty toilet paper roll into your very own Vaysie the Owl! Our printable kit has everything but the roll: her head, belly, wings, big sparkly eyes and feet. Print it in color, or color it yourself. It's an easy recycled craft for home, the classroom, or a library program.
What you'll need
- An empty toilet paper roll
- The free printable kit: ready-to-cut color pieces, or a color-your-own version (4 owls per page; cardstock works best)
- Brown paint and a brush, or brown paper to wrap the roll (optional)
- Scissors and a glue stick or tacky glue
- Optional: two small orange pom-poms to use instead of the paper feet

How to make Vaysie

Print and cut
Print the ready-to-cut page (or color the color-your-own page first), then cut out one head, one belly, two wings, two eyes and two feet. Using pom-poms? Skip the paper feet.

Get the roll ready
Paint the outside of the roll brown and let it dry, or wrap it in brown paper. A plain cardboard roll works too!

Give Vaysie her face
Glue the eyes onto the light face patches. Stand them up tall, with the sparkle dots at the top and the pointy ends toward the outside. Draw tiny eyelashes at the outer corners if you like, then set the head aside. It goes on last!

Belly and wings
Glue the belly on the front, leaving room at the top for her head. Glue only the straight edge of each wing to the sides so the rounded ends flap out.

Add her feet
Glue the two paper feet at the bottom front so they peek out. For fluffy feet, use two orange pom-poms instead. Tacky glue or glue dots hold pom-poms best.

Add her head
Last, glue the head to the front of the roll near the top, just above her belly, so her feather tufts poke up above the rim.
